Question about greatest Mexican premiere

[edit]

David is no longer the sole holder of "best open wheel premiere by a Mexican driver" record, which means it should likely be removed or at least qualified. 19 Year old Mexican Patricio O'Ward also finished 9th in 2018 at his premiere (very first) open wheel race in the IndyCar series; Indycar Grand Prix of Sonoma.[1] Considering that Mr. Martínez achieved his success at a time when Open Wheel racing was split between two series (Champ Car & Indy) in North America and O'Ward achieved his in the unified single-series era, it would seem that the latter's is greater. Further reasons are that O'Ward's took place outside of his home country (Martínez's in Mexico), in a field of 26 cars (Martínez race just 18) and that O'Ward was driving a car from one of the weaker teams (Harding), while Martínez was driving in superior equipment for one of the two premiere Champ Car teams (Forsythe). Beyond all of this, there is no citation proving that 9th place is even the best premiere finish by a Mexican in top-level open wheel racing (F1, Formula-E and IndyCar would be the 3 series considered premiere levels, and numerous Mexicans have driven in these series since 2006). The only place where I could find the claim that David's finish was best premiere was on the wedsite for the racing team that he owns, DEForce Racing.[2]
